Funnily enough, I watched this last night over on Mark Evanier's blog. He made some interesting comments on the characters' voice artists (only Wilma's Jean Vander Pyl made it to the series), but I thought that Fred's and Barney's voices in the pilot were in the same mould as Alan Reed's and Mel Blanc's in the regular TV show.
Originally the show was going to be called the Flagstones or The Gladstones before The Flintstones was decided upon. I learned all this from a book I got about the Flintstones a few years ago, but Mark Evanier's blog mentions it too.
