This is what things look like before they get the magic of colour added- in this case, by Nika. Here are practically the full extent of my colour notes to her back in 2007 when I drew this, destined for a Gibsons jigsaw that year. Anyone seen the finished coloured version?

As a new fan of Dennis the Menace and The Beano, it's a pleasure to know you have a blog I can look up whenever I can to see what you have in store for The Beano.
I also took a look at the most recent incarnation of Dennis and his Abyssinian wire-haired tripehound, Gnasher and I think you have a very appealing art-style.
I also have taken the time to have a look at the 2009 cartoon involving the menace himself and Gnasher as of recently, I quite enjoyed it actually. It turns out you were involved in the revamp of the comic and it was actually pretty funny and awesome. I liked the art style and I didn't think it was at all politically correct like people were claiming it to be as explained here: http://lewstringer.blogspot.com.au/2009/08/another-political-correctness-gone-mad.html
I ended up giving the show a chance when I stumbled upon it by accident and decided to give it a chance and I genuinely liked it. The first episode I watched was Bad Dad (the one where Dennis uses a multi-catapult to attack Walter and his dad with water balloons) and I've been watching the show ever since.
The show (as well as other Beano animated material) has gotten me interested in getting copies of the Beano off Ebay (I live in Australia if you're wondering) and I'm glad to know there's something I can watch on TV that's very enjoyable and charming.
Also, out of curiousity, what do you think of the 2009 incarnation? There's also going to be a 2nd series of Dennis and Gnasher (which I'm looking forward to).
Glad you like Dennis. I was involved in the planning stages of the TV show but weekly deadlines make it difficult to be any more involved. I just draw what I'm asked to, there's a lot to be done. I hope you enjoy the latest Beanos when they finally arrive down under.
I will and thanks!
:-D
Hi Mr Pakinson!
I'm currently redecorating my childrens bedroom, and they've both asked for a Beano picture for the wall. That immediately reminded me of this beautiful picture which I've used as my computer desktop for some time. I was wondering whether you would consider selling the original art , or a print of it?
Cheers,
Esteban (ep@priest.com)
Sorry, I can't sell original art, we sign a contract forbidding it.
And even if I could, how could I find it amongst the 30,000 other pages stacked on it, under it and around it?
But good luck with your project- my advice is to go at it really fast. Looks better than if you go really slow.
Oh! Fair enough!
May have a hunt around on the ebay to see if I can find the jigsaw then. That'd be a two for one. An afternoon making it with the kids, then we could frame it up! And I know just what you mean about trying to get it done quickly. I apinted one of their walls about two years ago...just never quite got around to the rest of it! I consider it a "feature wall" :)
