First thing this morning, Channel 5 turned up and set up a huge hot arc light and asked me to 'just act natural' while taping me for their feature on the 75th anniversary of The Beano. Channel 5's Ruth Liptrot went over to the Beanotown exhibition at Southbank, London at the same time, while I made her into a Beano character.
So that's what I did today.

Nigel, you're becoming that much of a TV celeb that You'll be drawing a story about YOURSELF in The Beano soon! Chortle!
You seem to be the go-to guy for reporters lately, lol. Shame they didn't do proper research though. Where did they get 135,000 from for the Beano's circulation? It's nowhere near that, I think they got the annual's sales figures mixed up with the far lower sales of the weekly comic, which sells more like 35,000 an issue, going by the last known ABC figures.
Seeing the Beano's gone up by 25% to £2.50!I hope you will you be getting a 25% pay rise.
It was 50p when I started but I definitely haven't had a 400% pay rise since then.
lol, anon, the price rises weren't just for artist fees. The latest one is temporary to cover the cost of the Turbo Battlerz figures. Previous price rises have been due to page count increases, improvements of paper quality, inflation, and increased overheads... the less copies it sells, the more it costs per copy to print. And unfortunately, the Beano is selling less than it was 15 years ago. That new printing press they bought recently won't pay for itself either.
