Every day I passed this library on the way to school, with it's quote from Francis Bacon (c.1600). Every day for seven years I had a good chuckle at this bit of graffiti. Not that I agree with graffiti in general, it's usually ugly, dumb, or dumb and ugly. But this example I thought was an exception. In 1978 they cleaned it off and it hasn't been back. In case you can't see it clearly it says:
Reading Maketh a Full man
Conference a Ready man
Writing an Exact man
Bacon a Fat man.

Similarly, in the 70s we didn't have Bus companies like today or Corporation buses like in the 50s and 60s, but a 'Passenger transport executive'. There was a sign on all buses that said: "Wilful damage to seats: The executive will press for heaviest penalties against offenders" which some wag once amended by scratching out certain letters so that it read: "The executive will press his penis against offenders". No seats were damaged!
Mucho LOLs. Evidently sometimes it is worth reading blog comments. :-)
I remember someone expressing their dissatisfaction at one strip taking the place of another in 2000AD by painting "Tharg is a tosser! Bring back Strontium Dog!" on the wall of King's Reach Tower.
